An Exploratory Study of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Women’s Access to Social Services

Having served the Montreal area for a long time, it was only with the pandemic of COVID-19 and the forced telecommuting that the Montreal House of Deaf Women (MHW) noticed that Deaf and hard of-hearing women from all over Quebec began to solicit their services from a distance.

It is in this perspective that the MFSM aims to expand the territorial scope of their services and thus meet the needs of this segment of the population on a permanent basis. Therefore, based on a combined methodological approach, the MFSM aims to draw a socio-demographic portrait of this segment, to outline the issues, and to identify the needs in terms of accessibility to social services, particularly those specialized in domestic violence and other forms of abuse, all in order to develop a plan for the implementation of the pilot project for the expansion of their services on a province-wide scale
